How and when do you get paid for gift cards sold online?

Gifty pays out gift cards sold online through Stripe, by default on the 18th of the month. Stripe first holds payments for 18 days, after which the money usually reaches your bank account 1 to 2 working days later. Each month you get a commission invoice with a payout statement, so you can reconcile the amounts.

The payout schedule at a glance

  • How you are paid: payouts go through Stripe, for orders that customers place online with you.
  • Holding period: Stripe holds each payment for 18 days before the money is available.
  • Payout day: by default the payout starts on the 18th of the month.
  • On your account: a SEPA transfer usually takes 1 to 2 working days, depending on your bank.
  • Admin: one commission invoice per month, with a payout statement attached.

How does the money flow for gift cards sold online?

A customer buys a gift card through your order module and pays online. That payment goes through Stripe. Gifty deducts its own fees there and the rest is yours. So the money does not go to Gifty first to be passed on later. It is paid out through Stripe to your connected account.

Gifty’s accounting handbook contains a worked example. A customer pays €50 for a gift card. Stripe keeps €1.00, Gifty keeps €1.80 and you receive €47.20 net. That example shows the structure, it is not a fixed rate. What you pay per gift card depends on your plan and is listed on the Gifty pricing page.

Note the difference with a card you sell in your shop. The payout in this article only covers orders paid online through the order module. Cards you sell at your own till do not go through Stripe.

When do you get paid?

The schedule has two parts that you should keep apart. The first is Stripe’s holding period: a payment is only available for payout after 18 days. Second is the day the payout is started, by default the 18th of the month. After that the bank still has to process the SEPA transfer, which usually takes 1 to 2 working days.

In practice, orders from one calendar month land in the payout of the month after. What was sold in September is in the payout of 18 October. That rule follows from the data. In 2025 all 7,377 payout statements for 1,154 businesses had a payment date on the 18th, and each one belonged to the month before.

If the money is not in your account a day or two after the 18th, that is bank processing time. The bank decides the exact arrival date. Check the payment date on the statement first before you get in touch.

What is the commission invoice and where do you find it?

Once a month Gifty creates a commission invoice, also called a payout statement. It contains the financial settlement for the billing period. In 2025 every invoice of this type was created on the 14th of the month, four days before the payout.

You find it in the dashboard under Financieel, Facturen (Finance, Invoices). All invoices from Gifty to your business are listed there, with invoice number, amount and status. Click the download link to save the PDF. Download it every month for your records, so you have everything together when your accountant asks.

What is on the payout statement?

The statement is attached to the commission invoice and contains five items:

ItemWhat it shows
Payout amountThe net amount transferred to your bank account
Billing periodThe dates the payout relates to
RevenueThe total gift card revenue in that period
CostsGifty’s commission and any other surcharges
Payment dateThe date the payout is or will be made

If the invoice contains several VAT rates, the PDF shows a separate VAT line per rate. You can use that breakdown directly for your VAT return. We will cover how to process gift cards in your bookkeeping in our upcoming checklist for business owners and accountants.

How to check a payout in four steps

  1. Open Financieel, Facturen and download the commission invoice for the month.
  2. Look at the billing period on the statement and check it matches the month you expect the payout for.
  3. Compare the revenue and the costs with what you see in your dashboard for that month.
  4. Look for the payout amount on your bank statement around the payment date and allow 1 to 2 working days for the bank.

If the amount does not match, keep the invoice, the statement and your bank statement at hand when you contact Gifty support. It saves a round of questions.

What happens with refunds and disputed payments?

When an order is refunded, it goes through Stripe. The refund is debited from your business’s Stripe account. When Gifty processes a refund, there is an option to include the fees of the original order, so you do not lose them.

A dispute or chargeback is different. Once it has formally started, the payment has already been withheld by the card network and evidence has to be submitted in Stripe. How such an amount relates to your monthly statement depends on when the dispute happens. If you are unsure about a specific case, ask Gifty support. You can read more about spotting and preventing abuse in our article on gift card fraud.

Can I get a different payout schedule?

Yes. Some businesses have a different schedule, for example weekly or on another day of the month. A Gifty administrator sets this up. If you have such a schedule, you can see it in your account settings. If you want a different schedule, contact Gifty. Whether it is possible for your situation depends on your agreements with Gifty.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my payout later than I expected?

Stripe holds payments for 18 days before they are available for payout. The payout then starts on the 18th by default and the bank transfer usually takes 1 to 2 working days. An order from the last days of a month therefore lands in the next month’s payout.

What is on the payout statement?

The payout amount, the billing period, the gift card revenue in that period, the costs (Gifty’s commission and any other surcharges) and the payment date. The statement is attached to the commission invoice.

Where do I find my commission invoice?

In the dashboard under Finance, Invoices. All invoices from Gifty are listed there. Download the PDF to see the statement page as well.

Can I get a different payout schedule?

Yes, a different schedule is possible, for example weekly or on another day of the month. A Gifty administrator sets it up. If your schedule differs, you can see it in your account settings.

Are payouts made per order or per month?

Per month. You get one commission invoice with a statement per period, and one payout based on it.

What happens to my payout if an order is refunded?

The refund goes through Stripe and is debited from the business’s Stripe account. Gifty can include the fees of that order in the refund, so you do not lose them. How exactly this shows on your statement is something to ask Gifty support.
